It has become quite common to dress structural steel and reinforced concrete columns to create a finished look. The most common material used for this is stainless steel since it pairs well with the stainless steel used for counters, railings, elevators, push plates, kick plates, accents, and trims. Stainless steel also pairs well with glass and other reflective materials which are very popular in most modern buildings.
Typically stainless steel panels are fabricated in sections and wrapped around the column. This creates the appearance of a solid stainless steel pillar which looks both strong, powerful, and luxurious. The design usually incorporates reveals which also makes the column appear as if it was constructed in large solid blocks. Since the design is not a simple wrap it must have a substrate which also helps to fill any imperfections or voids in the structural steel or reinforced concrete. An added benefit is that it also deadens sound eliminating any hollowness you may observe if you were to knock on the column.
In addition to column wrapping and cladding we are also able to fabricate column bases which are used in places such as airports, train stations, other high traffic areas. These columns bases usually include a large bumper that prevents carts from bumping into the column thus preventing any damage to the finished column.
